Gian Carlo Menotti may not be a mystic, but he certainly enjoys composing music about the raw passion of humankind. His operas are based on the gritty realism of our fallibilities and struggles. Menotti, as composer and librettist, he was a true pioneer bringing opera firmly into the post-war era by presenting his operas on popular radio and eventually on television in 1951 with Amahl and the Night Visitors.
